Early 2020 World Series Odds

There hasn’t been a month since the Washington Nationals beat the Houston Astros to win their first
World Series Title. The championship series have been called by many as the “biggest World Series
upset” since the LA Dodgers won the title after putting a 4-1 victory against the Oakland Athletics in
1988.
So going back to the future 2020 MLB odds, 2 teams have better odds to win the 2020 World Series than
the current Champion. Washington is listed at +800 while the Astros are again leading the future odds at
+500, followed by the NY Yankees at +700.
Let’s take an early look at the 2020 World Series odds and determine which MLB teams offer the most
value during the offseason.
Odds to Win the 2020 World Series:
HOUSTON ASTROS: +500
NEW YORK YANKEES: +700
WASHINGTON NATIONALS: +800
BOSTON RED SOX: +1200
LOS ANGELES DODGERS: +800
MILWAUKEE BREWERS: +1400
NEW YORK METS: +1400
ATLANTA BRAVES: +1600
CLEVELAND INDIANS: +1600
MINNESOTA TWINS: +1600
CHICAGO CUBS: +2000
TAMPA BAY RAYS: +2000

Now that we have reviewed the odds, let’s talk a bit about the favorites, starting with Houston. The
Astros put a great comeback in the 2019 World Series after trailing the series 0-2. Despite losing the
series 4-3, they remain as the best team in the MLB, and while free agency may bring some changes, the
team’s core is likely to return next season. In fact, Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow has spoken of
how his team was built toward sustainability, to "win multiple championships", and that’s exactly what
the current odds reflect.
Another early favorite, the New York Yankees, are a solid pick. The Yankees are poised to win their
division again and advance to the post season, but even at this stage, if the 2020 Yankees played like
they did in 2019, then the +500 odds offer much value. When a team as good as the Yankees doesn't
make it to World Series, it can be easy to think changes are required to get over the hump.
No team in the MLB has a bullpen as good as the New York Yankees. They count with a stunning
rotation that includes Luis Severino (missed the first 5 1/2 months of 2019 with shoulder injuries), James
Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka, Domingo German (expected to serve a suspension under MLB's domestic
violence policy), J.A. Happ, Jordan Montgomery (missed the first 5 1/2 months of 2019 while rehabbing
from Tommy John surgery), Jonathan Loaisiga and Michael King
The Yankees may need another starting pitcher to help Severino and Masahiro Tanaka, although, the
team should be in line to sign one of the top free-agent pitchers like Hyun-Jin Ryu, Gerrit Cole, Rick
Porcello, or Cole Hamels.
Can +1400 to +2200 teams offer a good value for the 2020 World Series?
We’ll give you one team: The Cleveland Indians (+1600). The Indians had some issues last season, but
mainly because Corey Kluber was out for most of the season due to an injury. If Kluber is cleared and he
can come back from his injury, the Tribe will be a great pick for the coming season.
